Logan, Alpha of the town's Lycan population, is always on guard making sure his pack is safe. On routine patrol, Logan scents out death, the type of death that only come from zombies. Resigned to the fact he will need to do a clean up of the zombie and it's victim, Logan is amazed that the intended victim is still alive. Disposing of the zombie is the easy part as Logan's inner wolf decides the female needs his personal protection on a more personal and permanent level. Titus, Master Vampire, is walking back to his lair after a hunt only to hear mental cries of agony the likes of which he hasn't encountered before. Finding the source, Titus is puzzled as the female he finds is not quite human but something more. It's been too long since he's had a companion to share his life with and there's something about this female that gives him hope she may be the one. Comforting her nightmare and leaving her still sleeping, Titus returns to his lair as dawn is approaches. He'll use all his resources to find out everything he can about this female before coming back at sunset to officially begin his courtship. Adara has no past, only the present. Total amnesia from a trauma that should have killed her but didn't. Long term inpatient treatment and medications are the only things that have been able to keep the terrors at bay though it's time for her to move on and live in the real world. With no finances and resources, Adara's only choice is a job in the worst part of town. What these three people don't realize is that it's not random fate that placed Adara where she is. Entities are at work to progress with the next phase of Adara's life which neither Logan nor Titus are suppose to be a part of. * * * * * New series from one of my fav author who has crossed over to the dark side. That's right, Ms. Langlais has changed course from her usual writing style to take a walk on the wild side. To be clear. This book/series is a departure from the author's norm in featuring a paranormal dark romance that doesn't include her usual humorous or lighthearted characters. She dug deep in premising a dark themed edgy story that factors in a mystery-suspense story line. Oh, and this story does end in a cliffhanger. The main characters. Adara. Logan. Titus. It's a love triangle in a similar fashion as Twilight though that's only a reference example. Personally, I started out all the way on Team Logan..... but Titus showed his colors so Team Titus fan..... until Logan went and did what he did so back to Team Logan and then some ... but then Titus goes and did what HE did so Team Titus for the win. You get the drift. The author made it all but impossible to pick one guy over the other. I kept screaming "why does she have to choose, can't she have both?" more often than not. Yup. This is when I say you're going to have to read this book to find out which guy got the girl, maybe. lol. I say that because there are more installments to come. Things could change. The secondary characters. The author made this a mystery-suspense read so I'm going to avoid naming names as it would be spoiler info. I couldn't help myself because one character really got my blood boiling and it's lucky I this fictional world wasn't a real place because I'd definitely be making a road trip to take care of the issue myself as it's obvious the men in this story suck when it comes to the whole Sherlock Holmes side of things. While I detest cliffhangers that leave me waiting for the next release, this story was so damn awesome that I'm ok to impatiently wait - so not. I want the next installment Awake In Shadows, and I want it now. So need to find out what lies ahead for Adara. This is a book that dark romance paranormal fans should check out. I do want to point out this book is a departure from the author's other works as it is dark (I know I'm repeating myself but fans of this author need to know this info) themed and does include subject matter that may push comfort zones. The other thing I want to include, for those who have a need to know regarding the actual romance level, this book does not include adult content intimacy/erotica. Any reviewer who says it does is lying. Doesn't mean future installments won't as this author does include graphic adult content, I'm just saying that the romance between whichever main characters hook up hasn't progressed to that level, yet.

This is the first of her books that I have ever actively disliked. Some spoilers - First of all it ends on a cliff hanger??? WHAT is the deal with that!!! I hate cliffhangers and I do not buy Kindle books except to read a complete story beginning, middle, and end and most important a HEA!!! Normally this would not be an issue because I don't buy those kinds of books but I have never read one of her books before that ended in this manner and I was NOT expecting it. Normally this would not be an issue because I don't buy those kinds of books but I have never read one of her books before that ended in this manner and I was NOT expecting it. Second, I can handle the potential love triangle although personally I would much rather each get their own girl, but like I said, that aspect is not that big a deal except again in the way this story just ends. like falling off a cliff and the screen goes blank. The writing was a good as ever, however, the story was a little too convoluted to follow easily. We the reader are as in the dark as the characters themselves and there are hints given that are never explained in the end so you are just left hanging.... again can you tell I have issues with cliffhangers lol. I feel like I became too invested in the story and characters only to be abandoned without any resolution or explanation and that actually made me a little annoyed. (First book since Nicolas Sparks that actually made me mad - he is evil personified to me). Then there is the whole issue of how dark this story got. Holy cow that was dark and evil and too disturbing to even think about. And sorry, there is not book magic in the world that could heal/cure make the main character even partially sane after her experience so there is no way I can believe that this character can find any real resolution to her situation. Also, I assumed it was a were/vampire story, but there are elements that hint that this is more of a mockery of Christianity than a fairy tale romance. So, I am out. No more of these books for me. I hate that because I have all of her other books concerning space and weres. I love her writing, even though I always stayed away from the demon and hell stories, but now it seems like she is combining the two and I have no interest in reading that sort of thing. And I am very very sorry to have to write this because I love this author, but this is was way out of my comfort zone. So sorry Eve.

Review originally posted at BooksOfMyHeart.net. I’ve been a huge fan of Eve Langlais for many years now, I think it goes back to like 2010 or so. I’ve read so many books by Eve (according to Goodreads, I’ve read 67 of her books, but some might be different editions of the same book, like print versus audiobook). Anyway, I really like Eve (and she’s even more fun in person. If you can go to a book con she’s at, please do look her up, you won’t regret it). Anyway, I really like Eve (and she’s even more fun in person. If you can go to a book con she’s at, please do look her up, you won’t regret it). Eve Langlais is one of my top go-to authors when I want a laugh. Imagine my surprise when I go to Goodreads to add this book to my TBR list and I see a bold warning at the top of the blurb; “Warning: This dark urban fantasy contains scenes of violence. Reader discretion is advised.” This struck me as odd and made me even more interested in trying this book. I’m a big fan of dark stories (I seem to go from dark and depressing to hilarious stories. They seem to balance each other out). I couldn’t wait to see what my funny author would do with a dark story. Adara has amnesia. She is recently out of the hospital and in living in a bad area and working in a worse one, during the evening shift closing the comic book by herself. It is almost as if someone is trying to get her killed. Then she gets attacked by zombies. Luckily, a certain alpha werewolf comes to clean up the zombie mess and saves her. Logan, the above mentioned alpha werewolf, has an instant and strange attraction to Adara. His wolf is very interested. But he’s also very interested in finding out who she is. She doesn’t share much information. He is also very hesitant to show her what he is. Titus is a master vampire. He hears Adara’s mental cries of agony when she’s sleeping and having nightmares. He knows she’s not fully human, but has no idea what she is. He also knows he can’t bear her mental cries. There is also the hint of romance. Nothing has really started yet, as the first priority is to get Adara out of trouble. But there is definitely something there. The question becomes, which man will win her over (or will she end up with both. It wouldn’t be the first time for Eve to have more than two people in a relationship together). There is a strong battle between Logan and Titus and jealousy too. So, this story is much darker than Eve’s normal stories (but not as dark as many of the other stories I’ve read, but I think the warning is good for people who are used to this author). She really has me intrigued with this story. We learn a lot about Adara throughout the book, but I think it ends with more questions than what we learn. I must learn more. Narration This is my first book with Amy Melissa Bentley. I have to say she’s done a great job. The cast isn’t very large, but she did very well with the mostly male cast. She gave a good performance with the dark topics and really put the emotions of the characters in their voice. Her pace and tone were well done. I would listen to her again and will continue this series on audio. **I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

He is the local wolf pack alpha, and the denizens of the street know better than to mess with him. One night, he happens upon a zombie about to take a bite out of Adara. From that point, he’s hooked. She smells so wonderful, but what is she? He needs to find out, but first he must keep her safe. Titus can hear Adara screaming in her dreams, and he wants to help the beautiful woman. His vampiric nature allows him to help in a way that Logan can’t – but the two of them need to work together to keep her safe and unlock her memories. What is making her forget? A departure from this author’s normal light-hearted romance novels, I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not. However, it does deliver on the promise of action-packed adventure. Dreams of Darkness takes us deep into Adara’s troubled past in order to prepare her for her future. It might be too dark for some readers, but there is that “light at the end of the tunnel” feeling; and you know that Adara will come out on top by the end of the series (at least she better!) There is no HEA just yet, but there is hope. And I still can’t wait for the next book to come out!

Adara has lost her memory, treated in an asylum and then allowed entrance into the world. Her mind tells her to forget the weird and unusual and every night she dreams of terror so great it leaves her mentally scared. Until a wolf and a vampire enter her life and change it completely, for better or worse is yet to be seen. This book is darker than other books written Eve Langlais and discretion is advised for readers who can suffer triggers. However that being said I absolutely loved it. Fantastic story, really kept me guessing Adara is such an enigma. Beautiful but pitiful, strong, but terrified, broken but... not. This entire story help my attention from the first word and has me near begging for more. What happened to her? WHY is she forsaken? WHO is she really? And that epilogue! I’m dying to learn more! Very well written, creative, and different from all the others, Eve Langlais has delivered the first in a promising new series, and I’m already hooked!

She didn't know what that meant but she was willing to find out. Titus Damnounus, the Cabal leader and a Vampire who'd heard Adara's desperate cries for help along with Logan. Both men wondered what on the world was happening. They were intrigued by the enigma that was Adara. Together they worked to find out who their mystery woman was. She found out about Logan's inner beast. She wasn't as scared as he thought she would be, she took things pretty well considering all she'd been through. She also found out about Titus, both men appointed themselves her protectors. They lost their hearts to her as well. Someone was definitely after Adara but Logan and Tirus wasn't about to let the evildoer get his hands on her, come what may. She might be broken but she wasn't going to sit on the sideline. Logan and Titus made a life changing decision that send her running away from. Not out of fear but because she wanted to keep them safe from her past. DREAMS OF DARKNESS is the first book in Eve Langlais' THE FORSAKEN CHRONICLES series. It was mind-blowing, intriguing, fast-paced and one heck of a rollercoaster ride. P. S. Can't wait for book 2! ;) ****Teasers courtesy of Eve Langlais.****

I debated 2 stars or 3 stars for a while, but so far the problems outweigh the enjoyment. Maybe later books will change that. For me, the biggest issue is that this seems like only part of a story. A series has an overall story, but you still expect each book to have its own complete story arc. While there was growth for the main character, to me it felt like it just stopped in the middle of the story. I'd probably just suggest waiting until the whole series is done so you can get the whole thing I debated 2 stars or 3 stars for a while, but so far the problems outweigh the enjoyment. Wow Dreams of Darkness, wow what a book Not knowing who she is, Adara (a nurse named her) has amnesia. Nightly her sleep is filled with gruesome nightmares. She is timid and afraid of everything, constantly telling herself that every terrifying thing is not real, she imagine it. A must read for fantasy, action, and mystery lovers.👍

Dark, OTT and trouble in the future. I'm gonna say out of all Eve's books I've read so far, this one I liked the least. I liked the vampire and wolf back and fourth frenemies, the servant was a pain. Did end on a cliff hanger but I won't be reading the next one.

Dreams Wow!! Although this book didn't have this author's usual funny side to her story, it was so riveting and suspenseful. The strength of the characters and their personalities will draw you into the story and make you feel you are part of the scene. Great!! Loved it!!

I was intrigued by the premise of the book, but it was too slow for me and the characters’s chemistry stunted. I did not finish it, but I appreciated the author’s attempt at writing for a younger audience.

Needless to say I won't read the rest of this series. This book was way too long and Adara's wimp to warrior demeanor was giving me a whiplash. I almost dnf this book so many times, but I pushed through it till the damn clinfhangery end!
