If you are held captive by a negative, defeating thought life, Battle Ready is the playbook to help you put on the mind of Christ. It’s a unique read full of bullet points, checklists, infographics and anecdotes to challenge toxic thinking. On her blog, Kelly calls herself a “cheerleader for Christ,” and that phrase perfectly captures her personality and writing voice. She will cheer you on and motivate you as you learn to take your thoughts captive. She explains that your mind is like a smartphone that is programmable and maintained by you. Your MindPhone holds many different messages, apps and codes that constantly run in the background. We can only have command over our lives with God’s help, and he can help us reprogram our MindPhones with his truth. Kelly gives us twelve warrior mind-sets to put on and gives many practical applications for each of these Battle Ready mind-sets. For example, Warrior Mind-Set Ten is Positivity. In this chapter, Kelly compares common negative thoughts with the positive thoughts we can have in Christ. She teaches you about the difference between the desert of “not enough” and the abundant banquet table of Jesus’ “more than enough.” She offers a five-point mind-renew to help you put on a positive, Bible-based mind-set. Each chapter is styled like this one–full of practical help. I enjoyed Kelly’s creative solutions for common thought problems. This book isn’t a fast read and that’s OK, because reprogramming your thought life certainly takes time. It’s a gut-level honest nudge to recognize your toxic thought patterns and enlist God’s help in forming new, healthy thinking patterns. Most of all, Battle Ready helps me think more as I write my own book about reforming our thought lives, which will be published in 2019. If you aren’t yet a subscriber, I encourage you to sign up to stay informed about the book! Here are my favorite quotes from Battle Ready: “As we speak as He speaks–His Word–in our mind and aloud…in practice and in deed…at night and in the morning…entering trials or emerging from them…our mind gains an awareness of God’s power, breathing and living in our lives.” "True connection with Jesus is uniting to His humility, His love, His life, His covering, and His ways, until we're sure all we want is Him." “Speak up for Jesus. Let your voice proclaim the glory of the Lord so it is established within your belief system.” “Hope breeds more hope. Faith breeds more faith. And the mind harnesses the truth, ‘With God anything is possible.'” "Fighters see what's coming on the #horizon and proactively get in front of it." “If it is God’s kindness that saves and cleanses us, why do we, in haste, keep speaking mean to ourselves? If God is kind, shouldn’t we be that way too?” “God’s Word reshapes us internally so the external becomes inconsequential.” Battle Ready has many more power-packed statements that can revolutionize your thinking. WOW! What a powerful new book for regular women fighting the good fight! Author Kelly Balarie has dedicated her open, honest, and transparent new book to the everyday warrior woman . . . “the one crying out in pain, the one shaving her head due to cancer, the one with a marriage hanging by a thread, the one suffering through an onslaught of mean words, the one trying to lift her head again, the one who calls herself a “bad mom,” the one pleading for a lost loved one, the one whose past beats her WOW! What a powerful new book for regular women fighting the good fight! Author Kelly Balarie has dedicated her open, honest, and transparent new book to the everyday warrior woman . . . “the one crying out in pain, the one shaving her head due to cancer, the one with a marriage hanging by a thread, the one suffering through an onslaught of mean words, the one trying to lift her head again, the one who calls herself a “bad mom,” the one pleading for a lost loved one, the one whose past beats her up, the one who goes to church yet still feels lonely, the one who’s done things horribly wrong. It is to you and to me—regular women fighting the good fight.” I highly recommend this book, which is chock-full of 12 powerful warrior mind-sets, overflowing with helpful strategies like these: Jesus used parables to help people imagine what His point was. Bible-centered imagination paints a picture of something new. It shows you the potential of what could be. Don’t fear it; use it for godly growth. Use your “heart brain.” Imagine how you will feel as a result of kicking a heart-hurting habit to the curb. Use the blessings of God’s Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22–23) as a carrot incentive to act differently. And please note: even more than what you’ve imagined, God can do. Imagine God smiling down on you as you trust Him with the scary things of your day. See yourself leaning on Him when you feel you can’t stand. Praise His name and feel Him smiling back at you through your suffering. Imagine who God has created you to be and what He has created you to do. Imagine how you feel as you let go of all that has held you back. When you set up God to rule over your life: no doubt, your heart can’t help but rule over your head. Add the word “but” to your negative outlooks. Example: I am tired today, but God will renew my strength. Repeat in your mind, God’s love will go forth from me, as I relate to [insert the person you’re standing before]. Note: this doesn’t mean you soak in all their problems, issues, and fears; it means you love from the place of the already-saturated fullness, the complete love of Jesus within you. Lord Jesus, bless Kelly and the launch of #BattleReadyBook indeed. Do something so big that it will be obvious it is from You. Increase her influence and opportunities to make a difference for You. Give her a continual awareness of Your Presence and Direction as she makes decisions. Protect her physically, spiritually, mentally, and relationally, and keep her from falling into satan’s traps. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen. #BattleReadyBook

Kelly Balarie’s writing reminds us that feelings are not reality & God’s Word provides the only stability we need in a world that’s been turned topsy-turvy. As we learn how to focus in on God’s truth, we experience the kind of victory only He can provide. If you’ve ever struggled with self-doubt, comparison, defeat, or loneliness—this book is for you! Kally’s words teach us how to exchange limitations for expectation. She encourages and equips us to take small steps on a daily basis that will help us become bigger, better, bolder fighters. She offers hope for every woman, every battle, and every circumstance—because of who Jesus Christ is and what Jesus Christ has done for us. Simply stated, Kelly shows us a better way to battle! Here are a few of my favorite take-aways from the book: • God wants open hearts, not perfect hearts. • Small victories in everyday battles prepare us for the ultimate victory in life’s biggest battle. • Repentance leads to restoration. • What we nurture in our hearts fills our minds and flows into our lives. • Rest in God’s provision, rejoice in God’s direction, and rejuvenate your weary soul. If you only read one section of this book—read warrior mindset 12—it’s not about us after all! It’s about Jesus and all He has done for us. Once we can grasp this beautiful truth, we are free to battle courageously, and live victoriously. My only caution to readers is this: don’t try to read and apply the whole book to your life in a week. Your brain might just explode! Just pick one powerful truth to focus on at a time. Allow that truth to infuse your soul and invest time and energy into applying it to your everyday life. Once you feel confident you’ve “got it down,” return to Kelly’s words and find another truth to focus on. **I received an advanced copy from the publisher for review purposes

it’s my heart to share how I’ve genuinely had some light shed on my mind-sets and Kelly for sure gives us lots of Scripture and ways that God has revealed to her how to be a warrior in taking control of her mind. In my opinion, this is a gracious gift of a book

You wouldn’t think it’s possible to get lost in a stand up shower. But for me, this is a regular occurrence. The cream-colored fiberglass is smooth, except for droplets of water dripping slowly down. I stand there shivering in my hastily tugged on and slightly dampened clothing, unaware of where I am, why, or the fact that ten minutes have passed since I turned the water off. I’ve gotten lost in thought again. While I wish I could say the thoughts were awe of God, the truth is they’re just replays You wouldn’t think it’s possible to get lost in a stand up shower. I stand there shivering in my hastily tugged on and slightly dampened clothing, unaware of where I am, why, or the fact that ten minutes have passed since I turned the water off. I’ve gotten lost in thought again. While I wish I could say the thoughts were awe of God, the truth is they’re just replays of the same old lines and familiar rehearsals of the conversations I’ve had and other thought trains I’ve taken that day. I rehash like it’s my job, but somehow think I’m the one in charge. Over-thinkers like me struggle hard with God’s charge to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) Kelly Balarie’s latest book, Battle Ready, is helping to stop my dizzying thought-cycles so that I can bring my mind into submission to the Savior. Subtitled “train your mind to conquer challenges, defeat doubt, and live victoriously,” Battle Ready is a unique and extremely practical read. The chapters aren’t set up like what you find in most books, where you follow trains of thought subconsciously. Instead, emphasizing the importance of ruling our minds, you can track Balarie’s train of thought very precisely as her lessons are clear. Every chapter begins with a godly mindset. Sections are divided by points that prove and practically address that mindset. In these sections there are how-to ideas and plenty of probing questions. Each chapter concludes with to-dos that help you implement what you’ve learned. In her typical way, Balarie’s writing is personable, inviting, direct, and memorable. Besides the many points she makes that stick with you, her quotes are worth writing down and returning to: “Do what you’ve never done before to see what you’ve never seen before.” “Truth not grasped in a heart never works.” “Thoughts and words are windows to the heart.” “God is a giver, but He doesn’t force the best of Himself on those fully satisfied with lesser gods or lesser goals.” “A strong dependence on God mentally beats your loud-speaking, always-shifting feelings.” As much I’d like to ramble on, I have to stop and admit: I haven’t finished Battle Ready yet. Nearly every section (yes section, not even chapter!) has caused me to stop, consider, and pray. This is a book that ripe for impact if you take your time with it- and Balarie notes this early on. If you’re also one to find yourself so lost in thought that you’ve lost track of your time, or your feelings, or relationships, or self-control….or shower….I highly recommend this book! (PS: Check out the Battle Ready website- you’ll find helpful printables there too.) (I got an advance copy of this book and agreed to give an honest review.)

This biblically based plan gives us the tools we need to turn our negative mindset around so that we can break free from our negative thought patterns and walk in freedom with Christ. What did I learn? Battle Ready is meaty. You'll want to take your time reading, so that each step or warrior mindset as Kelly calls them, will have time to sink in. And a highlighter is a must! Lots of good quotes and points to remember in these pages. In her book, Kelly encourages us to seek the truth of the Holy Spirit so that we can see things from God's view. She reminds us that we can only see one side of the story, but God sees the entire picture. If we want to change how we perceive things we'll need to rely on God's Spirit of truth and ask him to change our hearts so that we can better understand the way he sees the world (John 16:13). Kelly's book challenges me to see the entire picture. When I'm tempted to think the worst I need to remember to ask God to help me see things through his eyes. God's spirit will always lead me to the truth. And with the truth fresh in my mind I'll be able to begin translating things from a life-giving, truth-seeking perspective. What other things did I love about the book? Kelly gives readers several ways to take action and apply what they've learned. At the end of each chapter, there is a prayer to pray, a place to write down what we're thankful for, and personal reflection questions. And if you want to read this book with a group, there is an additional set of questions at the end of every chapter to work through together. Who should read this book? I love Kelly's honesty throughout the book. The real-life stories she shared helped me relate to what she was saying and had me thinking, "Me too!" After reading this book, it's clear Kelly wrote it to help us win the battle against our negativity and live victoriously. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with debilitating thoughts, doubts, fears, worry, and for those who feel trapped by a negative mindset.

If there's one thing I've learned recently it's that I have more control over the way that I react to situations in my life if I take the time to prepare my heart a little bit every day for whatever I may face. It's not about knowing you're going to face a battle and then mentally preparing yourself. It's about expecting that every day might bring you a battle and you have to do a little bit every single day so that you are battle ready.  In her newest book, Battle Ready, Kelly Balarie has taken If there's one thing I've learned recently it's that I have more control over the way that I react to situations in my life if I take the time to prepare my heart a little bit every day for whatever I may face. It's not about knowing you're going to face a battle and then mentally preparing yourself. It's about expecting that every day might bring you a battle and you have to do a little bit every single day so that you are battle ready.  In her newest book, Battle Ready, Kelly Balarie has taken the time to break down what she calls the 12 Warrior-Mindsets. Each mindset is designed to help us change the way we are currently thinking about our situations. To reshape the challenges, troubles and even positive opportunities into situations where we can thrive. And all this happens because we've put the time in day by day to create a plan that lets us thrive.  As you work your way through these mindsets, there is space to work out what you're learning. Through questions and checklists and thought inventories, Balarie will challenge you to examine your current life. And once you've examined your current life, you'll be able to move forward and thrive in a better life. This isn't a pretty book to sit on your bookshelf. This is a book that invites you to dig in. To accept the messy parts of life and work through them.  Through each page, Balarie will point you back towards living victoriously with God. It's not a book that will prop you up for a moment. It's a book that will give you the tools necessary to continuously live your best life. No matter what gets thrown at us each and every day, when we can spend some time focused on the possibilities and ways God is encouraging us to turn to him, we live victoriously. Battle Ready will teach you, the reader, learn how to face the worst moments of life with hope. When you live Battle Ready, you're not going to have to question whether or not you are thriving in life. You will know that you are sitting in the palm of God's hand, and trusting His plan for your every day. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my own, honest opinion.
